
Mason Marchment of Uxbridge, Ontario tied the Florida Panthers record for most points in a game on Monday in a 8-4 Florida win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 26-year-old left winger had a six-point game that came out of nowhere, as prior to Monday, he only had 28 NHL points in three seasons.
Marchment tied the record previously set by Olli Jokinen. In the win over the Blue Jackets, Marchment had two goals and four assists. It was also a huge game for Panthers’ center Sam Reinhart of Vancouver, British Columbia. Reinhart notched his fifth career hat trick, and first with the Panthers, as his other three-goal games were with the Buffalo Sabres.
In other Panthers news related to Canadian players, Panthers left winger Jonathan Huberdeau of Saint-Jerome, Quebec was named the Natinal Hockey League player of the month for January. In 15 games, Huberdeau has six goals and 19 assists for 25 points. He is the first Canadian to be named the NHL Player of the Month this season.
Colorado Avalanche center Nazem Kadri of London, Ontario meanwhile was the NHL player of the week for the week from January 24-30. In four games, Kadri had three goals and five assists for eight points. All three of Kadri’s goals were game-winning goals.
Meanwhile, in other NHL news, former Maple Leafs head coach Mike Nykoluk of Toronto, Ontario died on Monday at age 87 according to The Canadian Press. Nykoluk coached Toronto from 1981 to 1984.
