Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marc-Andre Fleury of Sorel, Quebec recorded his 72nd career National Hockey League shutout on Friday. Fleury, who won a gold medal for Canada in men’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, made 28 saves as the Minnesota Wild blanked the Seattle Kraken 1-0 at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.
Fleury made six saves in the first period, eight saves in the second period, and 14 saves in the third period. Yanni Gourde of Saint-Narcisse, Quebec, and Oliver Bjorkstand led the Kraken with four shots on goal each.
The Wild’s only goal came with one minute and 41 seconds left in the first period. That is when Mats Zuccarello scored his sixth goal of the season from Jonathon Merrill and Kirill Kaprizov.
On the season, Fleury now has a record of six wins, three regulation losses and one loss in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.87 and a save percentage of .905.
This was Fleury’s first National Hockey League shutout as a member of the Minnesota Wild. He has had 44 shutouts with the Pittsburgh Penguins, 23 with the Vegas Golden Knights and four with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Wild are in fourth place at the moment in the Central Division with a record of seven wins, six regulation losses and one loss in extra time. Their 15 points are two points back of the division-leading Winnipeg Jets.
