2022 Vanier Cup semifinals set

The 2022 Vanier Cup semifinals are determined. On Saturday, the St. Francis Xavier X-Men will host the Saskatchewan Huskies at StFX Stadium in Antigonish, Nova Scotia for the Uteck Bowl. That will be followed by the Western Mustangs hosting the Laval Rouge et Or at Western Alumni Stadium in London, Ontario for the Mitchell Bowl.

The X-Men qualified for the Uteck Bowl by beating Mount Allison 21-14 in the Loney Bowl at Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The X-Men were led by running back Malcolm Bussey of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, who had 20 carries for 116 yards and one touchdown, along with one catch for five yards. He also had the game-winning touchdown on a 30-yard run at the 21 second mark of the fourth quarter.

The Huskies qualified for the Uteck Bowl by beating the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 23-8 in the Hardy Cup at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Huskies running back Ryker Frank of Regina, Saskatchewan had 139 total yards (70 yards receiving and 69 yards rushing). The Huskies had a narrow 9-8 lead in the third quarter before Huskies quarterback Mason Nyhuis of Regina threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jordin Rusnack of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, and Huskies defensive back Finn Marcotte-Cribb had a nine-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Mustangs qualified for the Mitchell Bowl by beating Queen’s University 44-16 in the 2022 Yates Cup in London, Ontario. Mustangs running back Keon Edwards of Toronto, Ontario had 24 carries for 260 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Finally, the most exciting university football game on the weekend was the Dunsmore Cup. On the final play of the game, Nathaniel Dumoulin-Danguay of Rimouski, Quebec made a game-winning tackle in the end zone to give the University of Laval Rouge et Or the winning rouge in a 25-24 win over the University of Montreal Carabins. Meanwhile, Kevin Mitale of Saint-Hubert, Quebec had nine catches for 116 yards and three touchdowns.
