Marc-Andre Fleury records 76th NHL career shutout

Canadian Olympic gold medallist Marc-Andre Fleury of Sorel, Quebec recorded his 76th National Hockey League career shutout on Thursday. He accomplished the feat for the Minnesota Wild in a 4-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.

Fleury made 19 saves for the shutout. He made three saves in the first period, five saves in the second period, and 11 saves in the third period. Josh Anderson of Burlington, Ontario led the Canadiens with five shots on goal.

Two Canadians scored for the Wild. They were Frederick Gaudreau of Bromont, Quebec and Devin Shore of Ajax, Ontario. Gaudreau also led the Wild in points with two as he had an assist.

Of Fleury’s 76 career shutouts, 44 have been with the Pittsburgh Penguins, 23 with the Vegas Golden Knights, five with the Wild and four with the Chicago Blackhawks. He is 10th all-time in NHL shutouts. Fleury’s gold medal came in men’s hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. 

This was Fleury’s first shutout of the season. He has a record of 11 wins, five regulation losses and one loss in extra time. Fleury’s goals against average is 2.60 and his save percentage is .908.

With the win, the Wild improve to a record of 31 wins, 17 regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 66 points. They are in second place in the Central Division.
