Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marc-Andre Fleury of Sorel, Quebec recorded his 59th National Hockey League career shutout on Saturday. Fleury, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, made 19 saves as the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Nashville Predators 3-0 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

Fleury only made two saves in the first period and six saves in the second period, along with 11 saves in the third period. What could be stunning is that a Golden Knights team coached by Peter De Boer of Dunnville, Ontario only gave up two shots on goal in the first period and six shots on goal in the second period to a Predators squad loaded with offensive skill.

In the Golden Knights win over the Predators, Nashville captain Roman Josi led the team with five shots on goal. Three Canadians scored for the Golden Knights as Vegas goals from Reilly Smith of Mimico, Ontario, Chandler Stephenson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Nicolas Roy of Amos, Quebec.

In 2019-20, Fleury has a record of 20 wins, 12 regulation losses, four losses in extra time, a goals against average of 2.78 and a save percentage of .908. It was Fleury’s third shutout this season as he also blanked the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 on October 19 and the Calgary Flames 6-0 on November 17.

Of Fleury’s 59 career shutouts, 44 have been with the Penguins and 15 with the Golden Knights. Vegas is currently in third place in the Pacific Division with a record of 27 wins, 20 regulation losses and seven losses in extra time for 61 points.
