Baseball Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson passed away on Saturday at the age of 65 according to CTV. Henderson, who died of pneumonia, played 25 seasons of Major League Baseball from 1979 to 2003. The Major League Baseball All-Time leader in runs and stolen bases was on the Toronto Blue Jays team that won the 2003 World Series.
Henderson was traded from the Oakland Athletics to the Blue Jays on July 31, 1993. In return, the Athletics received pitcher Steve Karsay and right fielder Jose Herrera.
In 44 regular season games with the Blue Jays, Henderson batted .215 with four home runs and 12 runs batted in. Then in the 2023 postseason, it was a struggle for Henderson offensively as he batted only .170, which was 30 points below the Mendoza Line. However, he did have four extra base hits (all doubles), scored 10 runs and had nine walks and three stolen bases.
