According to cfl.ca on Thursday, British Columbia Lions fullback David Mackie of Jacksons Point, Ontario retired at age 30. Mackie spent six seasons with the Lions.

In 61 games since the 2018 Canadian Football League regular season, Mackie had 49 rushes for 206 rushing yards and eight touchdown runs. He also had 25 catches for 203 receiving yards, two defensive tackles, and 35 special team tackles.

Mackie’s retirement could be considered a little surprising when you consider the fact how effective he was during the 2024 Canadian Football League regular season. He had seven touchdown runs on 114 rushing yards (both career highs).

During his university career, Mackie played for the University of Western Mustangs from 2014 to 2017. He was part of the Mustangs team that won the 2017 Vanier Cup. In the Canadian University Men’s Football Championship from eight years ago, the Mustangs defeated the Laval Rouge et Or 39-17 from Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario. This was the seventh Vanier Cup in the history of the Mustangs. They won the title again in 2021.

Mackie was selected in the second round, 16th overall, in the 2018 CFL Draft. His most notable game came on June 25, 2022. Mackie had 16 rushes for 90 yards, and a one yard touchdown in a 44-3 Lions triumph over the Toronto Argonauts.
