Laurent Dubreuil wins two World Cup speed skating bronze medals

Canadian Olympic silver medalist Laurent Dubreuil of Quebec City, Quebec won two bronze medals in a World Cup long track speed skating competition in Milwaukee, Wisconsin over the weekend. Dubreuil won both medals in the men’s 500 metres with the first World Cup medal coming on Saturday and the second World Cup medal coming on Sunday.

In the men’s 500 metres on Saturday, Dubreuil had a time of 34.36 seconds. Jordan Stolz of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 33.91 seconds. Jenning De Boo of the Netherlands won the silver medal with a time of 34.28 seconds. Dubreuil reached the podium by seven one hundredths of a second. Damian Zurek of Poland finished in fourth place with a time of 34.43 seconds.

In the men’s 500 metres on Sunday, Dubreuil had a time of 34.35 seconds, which was one one-hundredth of a second faster than Saturday. Tatsuya Shinhama of Japan won the gold medal with a time of 34.14 seconds and Stolz won the silver medal with a time of 34.19 seconds. Dubreuil reached the podium by four one hundredths of a second over Zurek, who had a time of 34.39 seconds.

In the World Cup men’s 500 metre standings, Dubreuil is in fourth place with 276 points. Stolz leads with 414 points, De Boo is in second with 321 points and Shinhama is in third place with 280 points.

Dubreuil’s Olympic silver medal came in the men’s 1000 metre speed skating event at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The bronze medals in Milwaukee will give Dubreuil confidence as he prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Cortina d’Amprezzo.
