For the fifth time in her career, Kylie Masse of Windsor, Ontario is an Olympic medalist. On Friday at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Masse won the bronze medal in the women’s 200 metre backstroke with a time of 2:05.57.

Masse reached the podium by four one hundredths of a second. Phoebe Bacon of the United States finished in fourth place with a time of 2:05.61. It is interesting that Bacon had the fastest time in qualifying at 2:07.32, but was not good enough to land on the Olympic podium in the Olympic final.

Kaylee McKeown of Australia won the gold medal with a time of 2:03.73. She set an Olympic record in the process. Regan Smith of the United States won the silver medal with a time of 2:04.26. For McKeown, it was her sixth Olympic medal, and fifth Olympic gold medal of her career.

Masse’s five Olympic medals have come over the last three Olympic Games. She also won bronze in the women’s 100 metre backstroke at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, silver in the women’s 100 metre backstroke at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, silver in the women’s 200 metre backstroke at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, and bronze in the women’s 4×100 medley relay at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

In the medal standings, Canada has now won 11 medals after their three medal performance on Friday. They have won three gold medals, two silver medals, and six bronze medals.
