Darcy Kuemper of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan notched a surprise shutout against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. The Coyotes netminder made 22 saves in a 2-0 Arizona win at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Kuemper made four saves in the first period, seven saves in the second period and 11 saves in the third period for his second shutout of the 2018-19 National Hockey League regular season.

Kuemper has had a solid season for the Coyotes as he has a record of 14 wins, 14 regulation losses and five losses in extra time, with a goals against average of 2.68 and a save percentage of .913. Kuemper’s other shutout this season came on January 6, when he made 23 saves in a 5-0 Coyotes win over the New York Rangers.

In the Coyotes win over the Maple Leafs, another player from the province of Saskatchewan produced for Arizona. Josh Archibald of Regina scored his seventh of the season from Lawson Crouse of London, Ontario and Derek Stepan.

The Coyotes meanwhile are in the thick of things for a playoff spot in the Western Conference playoff race. They currently are only three points back of the Minnesota Wild for eighth place. A major reason for their success is because they have only given up 167 goals this season, the least in the Pacific Division.
