The Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League have signed defenseman Kurtis MacDermid of Quebec City, Quebec to a two-year contract extension worth $1.75 million according to the Associated Press. The Kings decided to lockup MacDermid long term even though the NHL’s future is completely uncertain at the moment due to coronavirus.
MacDermid is making $675,000 this season. He is now set to make $875,000 in 2020-21 and again in 2021-22.
In 45 gamed this season, MacDermid has three goals and five assists for eight points. He is a -9 with 47 penalty minutes, one shorthanded point, 51 shots on goal, 43 blocked shots, 95 hits, five takeaways and 26 giveaways.
MacDermid’s lone shorthanded point (his first of his NHL career) was an assist and came on a game winning goal by Adrian Kempe in a 5-3 Kings win over the Philadelphia Flyers on New Year’s Eve. MacDermid’s goals this season came in a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on October 22, in a 4-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on December 2 and in a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames on February 12.
MacDermid is in his third National Hockey League season with the Kings. Undrafted, he originally signed with the Kings on September 13, 2012. MacDermid played his junior hockey with the Owen Sound Attack and the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League.
