Kim Boutin wins four silver medals at the 2022 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships

Canadian Olympic silver medalist Kim Boutin of Sherbrooke, Quebec won four silver medals for Canada at the 2022 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Montreal, Quebec this past weekend. Boutin, who won the silver medal in the women’s 1000 metres a the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang,  won the silver medal in the women’s 500 metres, women’s 1000 metres, women’s 1500 metres, and the women’s 3000 metre relay.

In the women’s 1500 metres on Saturday, Boutin had a second place time of 2:24.201. Minjeong Choi of South Korea won the gold medal with a time of 2:23.594. Whimin Seo of South Korea won the bronze medal with a time of 2:24.455. Boutin reached the podium by 0.336 seconds over Canadian Courtney Lee Saurault of Moncton, New Brunswick, who had a fourth place time of 2:24.537.

In the women’s 500 metres on Saturday, Boutin had a second place time of 42.57 seconds. Xandra Velzeboer of the Netherlands won the gold medal with a time of 42.476 seconds. Yara van Kerkhof of the Netherlands won the bronze medal with a time of 42.642 seconds. Boutin reached the podium by 0.202 seconds over Alyson Charles of Montreal, who had a fourth place time of 42.772 seconds.

In the women’s 1000 metres on Sunday, Boutin had a second place time of 1:28.706. Choi won the gold medal with a time of 1:27.956. Velzeboer won the bronze medal with a time of 1:29.144. Boutin reached the podium by 0.586 seconds over Seo, who had a fourth place time of 1:29.662.

Boutin, Charles, Sarault, and Florence Brunelle of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec joined forces to post a second place time in the women’s 3000 metre relay of 4:09.717. South Korea won the gold medal with a time of 4:09.683. The Netherlands won the bronze medal with a time of 4:09.779. Canada reached the podium by 1.428 seconds over Italy, who had a fourth place time of 4:11.145.

In the men’s 1500 metres on Saturday, Pascal Dion of Montreal won the silver medal with a time of 2:15.644. Shaoang Liu of Hungary won the gold medal with a time of 2:15.096. Stijn Desmet of Belgium won the bronze medal with a time of 2:15.716. Dion reached the podium by 0.122 seconds over Sjinkie Knegt of Belgium, who had a fourth place time of 2:15.766.

Dion, Charles Hamelin of Levis, Quebec, Steven Dubois of Laval, Quebec, and Jordan Pierre-Gillies of Sherbrooke, Quebec won the bronze medal in the men’s 5000 metre relay with a time of 6:56.807. South Korea won the gold medal with a time of 6:56.709. The Netherlands won the silver medal with a time of 6:56.786. Canada reached the podium by 14.642 seconds over Hungary, who had a fourth place time of 7:11.449.
