Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ontario and Sloan MacKenzie of Halifax, Nova Scotia have won the bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. The third place finish came in the Women’s Canoe Double (also known simply as C2) 500 metres.

Vincent and MacKenzie posted a third place time of 1:54.36. China’s Mengya Sun and Shixiao Xu won the gold medal with a time of 1:52.81. Ukraine’s Liudmyla Luzan and Anastasiia Rybachok won the silver medal with a time of 1:54.30. Vincent and MacKenzie reached the podium by 0.54 seconds. Agnes Anns Kiss and Bianka Nagy of Hungary finished in fourth place with a time of 1:54.90.

While China dominated the race, there was a very close result for second place, specifically the silver medal. A photo finish by tournament officials was required to determine who was the runner-up. It was determined that Ukraine beat out Canada for silver by six one hundredths of a second.

This is only the second time that the C2 500 metres have been in the Olympic Games. On both occasions Canada came away with a medal. At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, Vincent teamed up with Laurence Vincent-Lapointe of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec to win Olympic bronze.

Vincent has had a remarkable canoeing career. In addition to her two Olympic medals, she has won 12 medals at the World Canoeing Championships.
