On the third final day of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Canada is guaranteed a medal in women’s beach volleyball, and will be in the conversation for Olympic medals in wrestling, weightlifting, canoeing, and shot put.
In women’s beach volleyball, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson of Toronto are in the gold medal match against Brazil. This is the very first time at the Olympic Games that Canada is playing in a gold medal game in beach volleyball (2:30 PM MT).
In freestyle wrestling, four Canadians are in action. They are Hannah Fay Taylor of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (women’s 57 kilograms), Alex Moore of Montreal, Quebec (men’s 86 kilograms), Amar Dhesi of Surrey, British Columbia (men’s 125 kilograms), and Ana Godinez Gonzalez (women’s 62 kilograms). Taylor and Moore are going through the Repechage. Dhesi is the Commonwealth Games champion, and Godinez Gonzalez won a wrestling event in Hungary in June.
In weightlifting, Boady Santavy of Sarnia, Ontario finished fourth at the 2020 Olympic Games in 2021. In canoeing, Sloan MacKenzie of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ontario are the reigning Pan American Games champions in the C2 500m, and Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia is the reigning silver medalist in the women’s shot put at the IAAF World Athletics Championship.
