Florida Panthers left winger Jonathan Huberdeau of Saint-Jerome, Quebec has been named the National Hockey League First Star of the Week from November 29 to December 5. In three games, Huberdeau had one goal and eight assists for nine points.
Huberdeau was also a +2 with four penalty minutes. He also had three power play points, 10 shots on goal, three hits, and two faceoff wins.
More importantly, Huberdeau led the Panthers to three victories during the week. He had three assists in a 5-4 Florida win over the Washington Capitals on November 30, one goal and four assists for five points in a 7-4 Florida win over the Buffalo Sabres on December 2, and one assist in a 4-3 Panthers win over the St. Louis Blues on December 4.
Remarkably, Huberdeau is the first Canadian this season to be named the NHL First Star of the Week. Over the first seven weeks, a player born outside of Canada received the honour.
Huberdeau is currently with a very good Panthers team that is trying to win its first Stanley Cup in franchise history. Florida has the second most points in the NHL. They are at 17 wins, four regulation losses, and three losses in extra time for 37 points. The only team better are the Capitals at 38 points.
