Buffalo Sabres forward Jeff Skinner of Toronto, Ontario recorded his seventh career National Hockey League hat trick on Monday. He accomplished the feat in a 6-2 Sabres win over the Seattle Kraken at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.
Skinner put the Sabres up 2-1 at 3:56 of the second period from Peyton Krebs of Calgary, Alberta. He then put the Sabres up 5-2 with an unassisted second period goal at 11:18 of the middle frame, and then closed out the scoring with one minute and 59 seconds left in the game from defenseman Jacob Bryson of London, Ontario, and Jordan Greenway.
Two Canadians scored for the Sabres. The other was Owen Power of Mississauga, Ontario.
In 61 games this season, Skinner has 24 goals and 21 assists for 45 points. He is a +2 with 28 penalty minutes, 12 power-play points, three game-winning goals, 186 shots on goal, 45 faceoff wins, 10 blocked shots, 17 hits, 33 takeaways and 27 giveaways.
Of Skinner’s seven NHL career hat tricks, four have been with the Carolina Hurricanes and three with the Sabres. Skinner’s four hat tricks with the Hurricanes came in a 5-2 Carolina win over the Nashville Predators on December 5, 2013, in a 4-3 Hurricanes win over the Washington Capitals on January 2, 2014, in a 5-1 Hurricanes win over the Anaheim Ducks on December 11, 2015, and in a 4-3 Hurricanes loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on December 15, 2015. In the other two hat tricks with the Sabres, Skinner scored thrice in a 5-1 Sabres win over the Los Angeles Kings on October 20, 2018, and four times in a 5-3 Sabres win over the Montreal Canadiens on February 13, 2022.
