Canadian Olympic bronze medalist James Crawford of Toronto, Ontario won the silver medal in a World Cup men’s super giant slalom race in Kvitfjell, Norway on Sunday. For Crawford it was his first career World Cup medal. However, the 24 year-old did reach the podium this year at a much bigger and more prestigious event than the World Cup circuit this year. That is because last month Crawford won a bronze medal in the men’s alpine combined at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Crawford posted a second place time on Sunday of 1:25.98. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway won the gold medal with a time of 1:25.91. Matthias Mayer of Austria won the bronze medal with a time of 1:26.03. Crawford reached the podium by 0.14 seconds over Dominik Paris of Italy, who had a fourth place time of 1:26.12.

With the silver medal, Crawford moved into sixth place in the World Cup men’s super giant slalom standings with 181 points. Kilde continues to lead with 480 points.

The World Cup alpine skiing weekend was an extremely successful one for Team Canada. On Friday, Cameron Alexander of North Vancouver, British Columbia shocked the world by winning the World Cup men’s downhill in Kvitfjell. The last World Cup men’s super giant slalom race of the season is in Courchevel, France on March 17.
