St. Louis Blues goaltender Jake Allen of Fredericton, New Brunswick is helping small businesses in Fredericton during the coronavirus outbreak. Jake and his wife Shannon have created the Fredericton Resilience Fund. The goal is to raise $200,000 to assist independent business owners and their workers in New Brunswick’s capital city.
As of April 13, Allen has raised $100,000. Allen has also got strong support from the Sara Burns Police Memorial Fund, which is matching all donations. Sara Burns was a police officer who was killed while on duty on August 10, 2018.
Allen is also getting national wide media attention for his cause. In addition to recognition on www.canadiansportscene.com, Allen also was able to spread the word out for his new initiative on CTV News.
Allen played in 21 games for the Blues this season and has a record of 12 wins, six regulation losses and three losses in extra time. He has two shutouts, a goals against average of 2.15 and a save percentage of .927. With these strong numbers, you could argue that Allen is one of the best backup goaltenders in the NHL. Allen’s shutouts this season came in a 4-0 Blues win over the Chicago Blackhawks on December 2, 2019 and in a 2-0 Blues win over the Blackhawks on March 8, 2020.
The Blues are currently in first place in the Western Conference. They have a record of 42 wins, 19 regulation losses and 10 losses in extra time for 94 points.
