Hayley Wickenheiser, Adam Van Koerverden headline list of inductees in Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame

Canadian Olympic gold medalists Hayley Wickenheiser of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and Adam Van Koeverden of Oakville, Ontario are headlining the list of inductees into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame for 2022. Wickenheiser, the greatest women’s hockey player of all-time (168 goals, 211 assists for 379 points in 276 games), won the gold medal for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Van Koeverden won four medals in canoeing at the Olympic Games. He won gold in men’s 500 metre kayaking at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, a bronze in men’s 1000 metre kayaking at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, a silver in the men’s 500 metre kayaking at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and a silver in the men’s 1000 metre kayaking at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Other athletes who received induction included 2011 MLS MVP Dwayne De Rosario of Scarborough, Ontario, NLL all-time leading scorer John Tavares of Toronto, Ontario, and 15-time Paralympic gold medal winning swimmer Tim McIsaac of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The builders recognized were Northern Games founder Edward Lennie of Beaufort-Delta, Northwest Territories, sports broadcasting legend Brian Williams of Winnipeg, and Canadian Olympic Committee President Tricia Smith of Vancouver, British Columbia. Also two teams are being inducted–the Preston Rivuelttes Women’s Hockey Team, and the Chatham Coloured All-Stars Baseball Team.
