The Hamilton Bulldogs are in the semifinals of the 2022 Memorial Cup in Saint John, New Brunswick. On Friday, the Bulldogs beat the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-2, and in the process eliminated Edmonton.

The Bulldogs and Oil Kings finished the round robin with identical records of one win and two losses. However the Bulldogs make the semifinals without having to play a tie-breaker because their win came in regulation, while the Oil Kings’ win was only in overtime. Regulation wins in the Memorial Cup are three points and overtime wins in the Memorial Cup are two points.

This was a big Memorial Cup game for Bulldogs center Mason McTavish of Carp, Ontario, who had two goals and one assist for three points. He was one of four Bulldogs players to have a multi-point game. McTavish was joined by Logan Morrison of Guelph, Ontario (two assists), Arber Xhekaj of Hamilton, Ontario (two assists), and Avery Hayes (one goal and one assist). The other Bulldogs goal scorer in the game was Ryan Winterton of Whitby, Ontario.

On Saturday, first place will be on the line as the Saint John Sea Dogs play the Shawinigan Cataractes. If Saint John wins in regulation, they finish in first. If Shawinigan wins or loses in overtime, they finish first.
