Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec won his second ATP event of the season and second ATP event of his career on Saturday when he won the 2022 Firenze Open in Florence, Italy. Auger-Aliassime beat J.J. Wolf of the United States in the final, 6-4, 6-4. Auger-Aliassime previously won the ATP event in Rotterdam, Netherlands in February for his first ATP title. He defeated 2021 French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the Rotterdam final, 6-4, 6-2.
In the Firenze Open Final, a major reason why Auger-Aliassime was victorious came down to his serve. Auger-Aliassime had seven aces compared to zero double faults, while Wolf had only one ace compared to four double faults.
Auger-Aliassime was the number one seed at the Firenze Open. With the win, he moved from 13th to 10th in the world. This was Wolf’s first ATP final. He moved from 75th to 56th in the world. By being the number one seed in Florence, Auger-Aliassime got a first round bye. He then beat Oscar Otte of Germany 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 in the second round, the eighth seed Brandon Nakashima of the United States 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, and then the third seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals. Nakashima won his first ATP Final earlier this fall when he beat Marcos Giron of the United States 6-4, 6-4 at the San Diego Open.
