
Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec made Canadian tennis history at the 2026 French Open on Monday. Auger-Aliassime, the fourth seed, became the first Canadian tennis player (male or female) to reach the quarterfinals of all four grand slams in singles action.
In the fourth round, Auger-Aliassime defeated Toronto-born Chilean Alejandro Tabilo 6-3, 7-5, 6-1. Prior to Monday, Auger-Aliassime reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2021, the semifinals of the United States Open in 2021 and 2025, and the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2022.
In Monday’s win, Auger-Aliassime had the service advantage. He had 17 aces, while Tabilo only had five aces. Auger-Aliassime also won 80% of his first serve points, compared to 57% of the points for Tabilo. Auger-Aliassime also broke Tabilo five times in six opportunities.
Next up for Auger-Aliassime is the 10th seed Flavio Cobolli of Italy. Cobolli is reaching his second grand slam quarterfinal as he made the final eight of Wimbledon in 2025. Cobolli has won both prior meetings (first round of Acapulco in 2024 by a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 and the first round of the 2024 National Bank Open in Montreal by a score of 6-3, 6-2).
Auger-Aliassime won the Olympic bronze medal in mixed doubles at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris alongside Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa, Ontario. Dabrowski is still in the 2026 French Open too. She has qualified for the semifinals in women’s doubles alongside Luisa Stefani of Brazil, and the semifinals in mixed doubles alongside Evan King of the United States.
