
Emy Legault of L’Ile-Perrot, Quebec and Tyler Mislawchuk of Winnipeg, Manitoba each won silver medals in a World Cup triathlon in Huatulco, Mexico this past weekend. Legault placed second in the elite women event on Saturday, and Mislawchuk placed second in the elite men event on Sunday.
Legault, who won her first career World Cup medal, posted a time of one hour and 13 seconds. Annika Koch of Germany won the gold medal with one hour and one second. Bianca Seregni of Italy won the bronze medal with a time of one hour and 15 seconds. Legault reached the podium by 19 seconds over Lisa Perterer of Austria, who had a fourth place time of one minute and 32 seconds.
Legault had a 750 metre swim of nine minutes and 59 seconds, 20 kilometre bike of 30 minutes and 49 seconds, and a 5 kilometre run of 16 minutes and 59 seconds. Her first transition time from the swim to the bike was 54 seconds and the second transition time from the bike to the run was one minute and 32 seconds. It is the second transition time period where Legault lost the gold medal as Koch had a sizzling second transition time of 28 seconds.
Mislawchuk meanwhile won a medal for a third straight time at the World Cup men’s triathlon event in Mexico. He had won the last two gold medals.
Mislawchuk posted a time of 53 minutes and 48 seconds. Genis Grau of Spain won the gold medal with a time of 53 minutes and 47 seconds and Miguel Hidalgo of Brazil won the bronze medal with a time of 53 minutes and 50 seconds. Mislawchuk reached the podium by five seconds over David Nunez of Mexico, who had a fourth place time of 53 minutes and 53 seconds.
Mislawchuk had a 750 metre swim of exactly nine minutes. His 20 kilometre cycling time was 28 minutes and 45 seconds and his five kilometre run was 14 minutes and 50 seconds. Mislawchuk had a first transition time of 48 seconds and a second transition time of 22 seconds. The medals for Mislawchuk and Legault will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
