Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs are playoff bound in 2022-23

This past week the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs clinched a National Hockey League playoff spot. The Maple Leafs clinched a playoff spot on Monday when the Ottawa Senators beat the Florida Panthers 5-2, and the Oilers clinched a playoff spot on Saturday when they blanked the Anaheim Ducks 6-0.

Toronto is currently second in the Atlantic Division with a record of 45 wins, 20 regulation losses, and 10 losses in extra time for 100 points. They are one of four NHL teams in the Eastern Conference with 100 points. They are joined by the Boston Bruins (123 points), the Carolina Hurricanes (105 points), and New Jersey Devils (104 points).

Edmonton is currently second in the Pacific Division with a record of 45 wins, 23 regulation losses, and nine losses in extra time for 99 points. They actually have the second best record in the Western Conference and are only two points back of the first place Vegas Golden Knights.

In the Oilers’s win over the Ducks on Saturday, Leon Draisaitl recorded the hat trick, and Jack Campbell registered his first shutout as an Oiler as he made 36 saves. Three Canadians scored for the Oilers as Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario, Darnell Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario, and Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario all had their names on the scoresheet.

On Saturday, the Maple Leafs won their first game since clinching a playoff spot. They defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-0 at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario. Ilya Samsonov made 31 saves for the shutout. Michael Bunting of Scarborough, Ontario scored the unassisted game-winning goal at 1:23 of the second period.
