Dylan Strome records third career NHL hat trick

Washington Capitals centre Dylan Strome of Mississauga, Ontario has recorded his third career National Hockey League hat trick. He accomplished the feat on Tuesday in a 3-1 Capitals win over the New York Islanders at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Strome scored a goal in each period. He opened the scoring at 8:15 of the first period on the power play from Pierre-Luc Dubois of Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec and Rasmus Sandin. Strome then scored the game-winning goal at 7:52 of the second period from Alexander Ovechkin to put the Capitals up 2-0. Strome then closed the scoring with one minute and 11 seconds left in the third period from Tom Wilson of Toronto, Ontario and Nic Dowd.

This was Strome’s first hat trick with the Capitals. His other two hat tricks were with the Chicago Blackhawks. He scored thrice in an 8-5 Blackhawks win over the Detroit Red Wings on January 26, 2022, and in an 8-3 Blackhawks win over the Anaheim Ducks on March 8, 2022.

In 2024-25, Strome has 29 goals and 52 assists for 81 points in 81 games. He is a +2 with 34 penalty minutes, 33 power-play points, three game-winning goals, 148 shots on goal, 681 faceoff wins, 54 blocked shots, 23 hits, 21 takeaways and 79 giveaways.

The Capitals lead the Eastern Conference. They have 111 points, the second most in the NHL.
