The 2026 Major League Baseball regular season is complete and it was a breakout season for Miami Marlins middle infielder Otto Lopez of Montreal, Quebec. In 2026, Lopez was not only a National League All-Star for the first time in his career, but he also led the Major Leagues with 191 hits.
Lopez’s 191 hits were six more than Luis Arraez of the Philadelphia Phillies, who was second in hits with 185. Yandy Diaz of the Tampa Bay Rays led the American League with 180 hits.
Lopez was also third in the National League in batting average this past season at .305. He was only behind former Toronto Blue Jays catcher Gabriel Moreno of the Arizona Diamondbacks who won the National League batting title with a batting average of .311, and Arraez, who batted .310. It should be noted that Lopez was also a former Blue Jays infielder.
Of Lopez’s 191 hits in 2026, he had 139 singles and 52 extra base hits. Lopez had 32 doubles, nine triples and 11 home runs. Lopez was second in the Major Leagues in singles (behind Chandler Simpson of the Rays who had 153 singles) and tied Geraldo Perdomo of the Diamondbacks for the Major League lead in triples.
Also in 2026, Lopez scored 94 runs in 157 games. During 627 at bats and 687 plate appearances, Lopez had 71 runs batted in, 34 stolen bases, 40 walks, 274 total bases, 11 sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .349 and a slugging percentage of .437. Lopez’s 11 sacrifice flies were third in the Major Leagues behind Ozzie Albies of the Braves and Arraez, who had 14 sacrifice flies each.
