Leylah Annie Fernandez of Montreal, Quebec has won the 2026 Singapore Tennis Open. On Sunday, Fernandez defeated Talia Gibson of Australia 7-5, 6-0.
Fernandez dominated the second half of the match. After losing five of the first nine games, she won the last nine games for her sixth career WTA title.
In the final, Fernandez had the statistical service advantage. Fernandez had five aces and four double faults, while Gibson had two aces and five double faults. Fernandez also had the strong advantage over Gibson when it came to winning percentage on second serve points. Fernandez was at 69% and Gibson was at 47%.
With the win, Fernandez moved up five places in the WTA world rankings. She moved from 31st in the world to 26th spot.
In Indonesia this past week, Fernandez beat the two French Open finalists. She beat French Open champion Mirra Andreeva of Russia 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinals, and French Open runner-up Maja Chwalinska of Poland 1-6, 6-4. 6-2 in the semifinals. Fernandez is a grand slam finalist herself as she made the 2021 United States Open women’s final.
Faernandez’s first WTA title was the 2021 Monterrey Open in Mexico. That was followed by the 2022 Monterrey Open, the 2023 Hong Kong Open, the 2025 Washington Open and the 2025 Japan Women’s Open. The Singapore Open was a WTA 500 event. Of Fernandez’s five previous titles, four of them were a 250 event. The only other 500 event Fernandez won was Washington.
