Duncan Keith retires at age 38

Two-time Canadian Olympic gold medalist Duncan Keith of Winnipeg, Manitoba retired at the age of 38 on Friday according to Rogers Sportsnet. Keith played 17 seasons in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers from 2005 to 2022. He won two gold medals for Canada in men’s ice hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, and three Stanley Cups with Chicago in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

In 17 NHL seasons in Chicago and Edmonton, Keith had 106 goals and 540 assists for 646 points. He was a +159 with 675 penalty minutes, 186 power-play points, 20 shorthanded points, 19 game-winning goals, and 2526 shots on goal.

In the postseason, Keith played in 151 games and had 19 goals and 72 assists for 91 points. He was a +20 with 70 penalty minutes, two power-play goals, five game-winning goals, 323 shots on goal, 251 blocked shots, 115 hits, 82 takeaways and 178 giveaways.

Keith also won numerous NHL awards during his playing career. They included the 2010 and 2014 Norris Trophies and the 2015 Conn Smythe Trophy. When Keith won the 2015 Conn Smythe Trophy, he led all players in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with 18 postseason assists and a +16.

Keith also played in four NHL All-Star Games. They came in 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2017. Keith was also a member of the NHL’s First All-Star Team in 2010 and 2014.
