Vladimir Guerrero and Alejandro Kirk of the Toronto Blue Jays will get the start in the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Los Angeles on July 19. Guerrero of Montreal, Quebec will start on first base, and Kirk will get the start at catcher, for the American League according to Edward Sutelan of The Sporting News on Saturday.
Guerrero is batting .270 in 2022 with 19 home runs and 54 runs batted in. During 84 games, 362 plate appearances and 319 at bats, he has scored 46 runs and had 86 hits, with 14 doubles, 37 walks, 157 total bases, four hit by pitches, two sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .351, and a slugging percentage of .492.
Kirk is batting .310 in 2022 with 10 home runs and 33 runs batted in. During 75 games, 276 plate appearances and 239 at bats, he has scored 40 runs, and had 74 hits, with 12 doubles, 31 walks, 116 total bases, four hit by pitches, two sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .395, and a slugging percentage of .485.
Due to the Blue Jays’s strong depth at catcher, do not be surprised to see Kirk used as a designated hitter more frequently as the 2022 MLB regular season progresses. The Blue Jays are currently at 45 wins and 40 losses. They lead the Seattle Mariners by two games for the last wildcard spot in the American League.
