Day 16 Preview of 2024 Olympic Games

There are four Canadians who have an opportunity to win an Olympic medal on Sunday, the final day of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Let’s take a look at who these athletes are.

Malindi Elmore  

Elmore is competing in the women’s marathon (12am MT). The native of Kelowna, British Columbia finished ninth in the women’s marathon at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. Elmore has also had success in the past internationally in the women’s 1500 metres (bronze at the 2003 Summer Universiade in Daegu, South Korea and bronze at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico).

Maggie Coles-Lyster 

Coles-Lyster will be competing in the women’s omnium in track cycling on Sunday (3am MT). The 25-year-old from Maple Ridge, British Columbia has had success internationally in the team pursuit, scratch events, the Madison and elimination events. Coles-Lyster won the silver medal in the Madison and team pursuit at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima.

James Hedgcock 

Hedgcock of Ancaster, Ontario will be competing in the men’s Keirin quarterfinals on Sunday (3:29 am MT). He was part of the Canadian team that won gold in the team sprint at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

Nick Wammes 

Wammes of London, Ontario will also be competing in the men’s Keirin quarterfinals. He also teamed up with Hedgcock to win gold in the team sprint at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.
