Darryl Sutter of Viking, Alberta has become the Calgary Flames all-time leader in coaching wins. On Saturday according to Ryan Pike of flamesnation.ca, Sutter won his 194th game as a head coach, which passed Bob Johnson for the most coaching wins all-time. Johnson had 193 wins with Calgary from 1982 to 1987.
Sutter’s win came in a dominant 6-3 Calgary win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Four Canadians scored for the Flames in the three goal win. They were Nazem Kadri of London, Ontario, Jonathan Huberdeau of Saint-Jerome, Quebec, Dillon Dube of Golden, British Columbia, and Tyler Toffoli of Scarborough, Ontario.
You could make the argument that this was the most complete game for the Flames this season. They beat a Lightning team that has won two of the last three Stanley Cups by three goals after scoring three goals in the third period. It was also a dominant first period for the Flames, as they outshot the Lightning 15-4, and 41-24 overall.
With the win, the Flames improved to a record of 22 wins, 16 regulation losses, and nine losses in extra time for 53 points. They are tied for eighth place in the Western Conference with the Colorado Avalanche. Colorado has a record of 25 wins, 17 regulation losses, and three losses in extra time.
