Connor McDavid named NHL Player of the Week

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario has been named the National Hockey League player of the week for the week from October 24-30. In four games, he had four goals and four assists for eight points. During the week, McDavid was also a +2 with three power-play points, 11 shots on goal, two blocked shots, and 17 faceoff wins.

On Thursday, McDavid collected his second hat trick of the season. It came in a 6-5 Oilers win over the Chicago Blackhawks. McDavid also had an assist for a four-point night in Chicago.

McDavid’s first point of the week was an assist in a 3-1 Oilers win over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, and he also had one goal and two assists in a 3-2 Oilers win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday. The goal he scored on against the Flames came on his only shot of the game. In the other Oilers win during the week, a 6-3 Edmonton win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 24, McDavid did not pick up a point, however he did win seven of eight faceoffs.

Through the first nine games of the season, McDavid has nine goals and nine assists for 18 points. He is a +2 with four penalty minutes, eight power-play points, one game-winning goal, 30 shots on goal, 50 faceoff wins, four blocked shots, 10 hits, six takeaways and 11 giveaways. McDavid leads the NHL in goals, points, and power-play goals (five).

The Oilers are in second place in the Pacific Division with 12 points (six wins and three losses). They are four points back of the Vegas Golden Knights.
