One of the top Canadian baseball stories at the moment has been the outstanding offensive production from two Canadians this season on the Miami Marlins–shortstop Otto Lopez of Montreal, Quebec, and catcher Liam Hicks of Toronto, Ontario. Lopez and Hicks have been so good, they are favoured to represent the National League and the Marlins at the 2026 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Philadelphia on July 14.
Lopez leads the Major Leagues with 78 hits and a .333 batting average. In 2026, Lopez has scored 33 runs and had 15 doubles, two triples, 10 stolen bases, 10 walks, a .365 on base percentage, .466 slugging percentage, 109 total bases, and four sacrifice flies.
Hicks is third in the National League with 46 runs batted in. He is only behind Los Angeles Dodgers centerfielder Andy Pages (50), and Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams (47).
In 2026, Hicks is batting .268 with 12 home runs. He has scored 29 runs and had 52 hits, five doubles, one stolen base, 21 walks, 93 total bases, four sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .345, and a slugging percentage of .479. The stolen base came in a 10-4 Marlins win over the Atlanta Braves on April 13.
Despite the success this season for Lopez and Hicks, it has not equated into victories for Miami. The Marlins are at 27 wins and 34 losses.
