Carter Hart of Sherwood Park, Alberta and Mackenzie Blackwood of Thunder Bay, Ontario led Team Canada to a 5-0 shutout win over Denmark at the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Hockey Championship from Kosice, Slovakia on Monday. Hart made 21 saves and Blackwood made three saves for the 24 save shutout victory. This was Hart’s second shutout of the 2019 World Men’s Hockey Championship as he previously made 12 saves in an 8-0 Canada win over Great Britain on May 12.
In Canada’s win over Denmark, Hart, a goaltender for the Philadelphia Flyers, made eight saves in the first period, nine saves in the second period and four saves in the third period. Blackwood, a goaltender for the New Jersey Devils, then came in for the final nine minutes of the third period and made three saves.
Offensively, Team Canada was led offensively by Buffalo Sabres center Sam Reinhart of North Vancouver, British Columbia (two goals), Vegas Golden Knights left winger Jonathan Marchessault of Cap Rouge, Quebec (one goal and one assist) and Golden Knights right winger Mark Stone of Winnipeg, Manitoba (two assists). The other two Canadian goal scorers were Pittsburgh Penguins centre Jared McCann of Stratford, Ontario and Columbus Blue Jackets left winger Pierre-Luc Dubois of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec.
With the win, Team Canada can move into first place in Group A with a win over the United States. The two North American nations play against each other on Tuesday. A loss to the United States means Canada will place third and the United States will win the pool. First place is on the line due to the fact that Germany upset Finland 4-2 earlier on Tuesday.
