According to Rogers Sportsnet on Tuesday, the Washington Capitals have traded right winger Anthony Mantha of Longueuil, Quebec to the Vegas Golden Knights for a second round pick in the 2024 National Hockey League Entry Draft and a fourth round pick in the 2026 National Hockey League Entry Draft. As part of the transaction, the Capitals retain 50% of Mantha’s contract.
The Golden Knights are the third National Hockey League team Mantha has played for. He has previously played six seasons with the Detroit Red Wings from 2015 to 2021, and four seasons with the Washington Capitals from 2021 to 2024.
This season Mantha has 20 goals and 14 assists for 34 points in 56 games. He is a +5 with 17 penalty minutes, seven power-play points, 90 shots on goal, two faceoff wins, 21 blocked shots, 31 hits, 21 takeaways and 18 giveaways. Mantha’s faceoff wins came in a 4-3 Capitals win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 18 and in a 4-3 Capitals win over the Buffalo Sabres on November 22.
The Golden Knights have dropped to fourth place in the Western Conference. The defending Stanley Cup champions have a record of 33 wins, 22 regulation losses and seven losses in extra time for 73 points. In their last 10 games, the Golden Knights have only won twice. Vegas also has a three game losing streak, and have given up 18 goals in that time frame.
