The Montreal Canadiens have traded Canadian Olympic golf medalist Shea Weber of Sicamous, British Columbia to the Vegas Golden Knights for right winger Evgenii Dadonov according to Eric Engels of Rogers Sportsnet. The Golden Knights become the third team Weber has played for following 11 seasons with the Nashville Predators from 2005 to 2016 and five seasons with the Canadiens from 2016 to 2021.

Weber, who won the gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, did not play the entire 2021-22 National Hockey League regular season due to various injuries to his knee, foot and ankle. Dadonov meanwhile had 20 goals and 23 assists for 43 points this past year.

During his prime, Weber was one of the most intimidating defensemen in the entire NHL. He had a career-high 211 hits while with the Predators in 2010-11. Weber, who has 589 points in 1038 games, is a seven-time All-Star.

It will be interesting to see if Weber will have much of an impact with the Golden Knights. He will join a Vegas blueline that also includes Canadian Olympic gold medalist Alex Pietrangelo of King City, Ontario, who was Weber’s teammate at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

This is the second significant transaction the Golden Knights made this week. On Tuesday, the Golden Knights named Bruce Cassidy of Ottawa, Ontario their head coach.
