Andrew Wiggins wins the NBA Finals

Andrew Wiggins of Toronto, Ontario has won the NBA Finals. On Thursday, Wiggins had 18 points and six rebounds in 44 minutes as the Golden State Warriors beat the Boston Celtics 103-90. With the win, the Warriors beat the Celtics four games to two in the best out of seven series.

Wiggins made seven of 18 field goals, four of nine three-pointers, had four steals, three blocks and was a +5. Of Wiggins’s six rebounds, there were three offensive rebounds, and three defensive rebounds. Wiggins actually led the Warriors in game six in steals and blocks.

In the 2022 NBA Playoffs, Wiggins, who played small forward, started in all 22 games for the Warriors. He averaged 16.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 1.8 assists per game. Wiggins had a field goal percentage of .469, a three-point percentage of .333, and a free throw percentage of .646.

Wiggins becomes the eighth Canadian to win the NBA Finals. He joins Mike Smrek of Welland, Ontario (Los Angeles Lakers, 1988), Bill Wennington of Montreal, Quebec (Chicago Bulls, 1997, 1998), Rick Fox of Toronto, Ontario (Los Angeles Lakers, 2000, 2001, 2002), Joel Anthony of Montreal (Miami Heat, 2012, 2013), Cory Joseph of Toronto (San Antonio Spurs, 2014), Tristan Thompson of Toronto (Cleveland Cavaliers, 2016), and Chris Boucher of Montreal (Golden State Warriors in 2018 and Toronto Raptors, 2019).

It was a magical season for Wiggins. He not only became the first Canadian to win the NBA Finals and participate in the NBA All-Star Game in the same season, but was the first Canadian to win the NBA Finals and participate in the NBA All-Star Game in his career.
