
Canada won the gold medal in the two duet events at 2024 Skate Canada International in Halifax, Nova Scotia. On Saturday, the Canadian duo of Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec won gold in the pairs event. Then on Sunday, the Canadian duo of Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Ottawa, Ontario won gold in the ice dance event.
Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps might not have been at their best in the long program, but it was still good enough to finish first. They posted a winning score of 197.33 points. Ekaterina Geynish and Dmitrii Chigirev of Uzbekistan won the silver medal with a score of 189.65 points. Anastasia Golubeva and Hektor Giotopoulos Moore of Australia won the bronze medal with a score of 186.14 points. Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps reached the podium by 13.03 points. Annika Hocke and Robert Kunkel of Germany finished in fourth place with a score of 184.3 points. This was the second straight year Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps won Skate Canada as they won in 2023 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Meanwhile, in ice dancing, Canadians finished in first and second place. Gilles and Poirier won the gold medal with 214.84 points. Marjorie Lajoie of Boucherville, Quebec and Zachary Lagha of Greenfield Park, Quebec won the silver medal with 199.9 points. Evgenia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud of France won the bronze medal with 194.25 points. Gilles and Poirier reached the podium by 25.24 points over Natalie Taschlerova and Filip Taschler, who finished in fourth place with 189.6 points. Lajoie and Lagha reached the podium by 10.3 points. This was the fifth time Gilles and Poirier have won Skate Canada. They previously won in 2019 in Kelowna, British Columbia, in 2021 and 2023 in Vancouver, and in 2022 in Mississauga, Ontario. The medals for Stellato-Dudek, Deschamps, Gilles, Poirier, Lajoie and Lagha will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
