Canada wins five medals at a weekend snowboarding World Cup in Calgary

Team Canada won five medals at a weekend snowboarding World Cup in Calgary this past weekend. Darcy Sharpe of Calgary, Alberta and Cameron Spalding of Mount St. Louis Moonstone, Ontario won gold and bronze respectively in the men’s slopestyle snowboarding on Sunday. Canadian Olympic silver medalist Laurie Blouin of Quebec City, Quebec won the silver medal, and Jasmine Baird of Mississauga, Ontario won the bronze medal in the women’s slopestyle snowboarding event on Sunday. In the women’s halfpipe snowboarding event on Friday, Elizabeth Hosking of Longueuil, Quebec won the silver medal. Blouin won the silver medal in the women’s slopestyle snowboarding event at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

In men’s slopestyle snowboarding, Sharpe won the gold medal with 88.85 points. Dusty Henricksen of the United States won the silver medal with 82.66 points. Spalding won the bronze medal with 77.33 points. Sharpe reached the podium by 12.05 points and Spalding reached the podium by 0.53 points over Taiga Hasegawa of Japan, who was in fourth place with 76.8 points. In the World Cup men’s slopestyle snowboarding standings, Sharpe is in third with 104 points and Spading is in 10th place with 75 points. Henricksen leads with 260 points.

In the women’s slopestyle snowboarding, Blouin had 76.41 points and Baird had 76.21 points. Julia Marino of the United States won the gold medal with 78.36 points. Blouin reached the podium by 5.55 points and Baird reached the podium by 5.35 points. Miyabi Onitsuka of Japan finished in fourth place with 70.86. In the World Cup women’s slopestyle snowboarding standings, Blouin is in sixth place with 100 points and Baird is in 12th place with 60 points. The World Cup leader is Marino with 213 points.

In the women’s halfpipe snowboarding event, Hosking had 86 points. Mitsuki Ono of Japan won the gold medal with 89.75 points. Berenice Wicki of Switzerland won the bronze medal with 72.5 points. Hosking reached the podium by 13.75 points over Brooke D’Hondt of Calgary, Alberta, who was in fourth place with 72.25 points. In the World Cup standings, Hosking is in second place with 237 points. Ono leads with 360 points. The medals for Hosking, Blouin, Sharpe, Spalding and Baird will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
