Canada upsets Poland at Women’s Volleyball Nations League

Team Canada has upset Poland at the 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday. Canada defeated Poland 25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 11-25, 15-13. Poland is a two-time European champion, world championship silver medalist, two-time Olympic bronze medalist, and has won the bronze medal in the last three Women’s Volleyball Nations League seasons.

In Canada’s win over Poland, three Canadians reached double digits in points. Once again, opposite Kiera Van Ryk of New Westminster, British Columbia was the most dominant player on the court on either side, and on Sunday it was not remotely close. Van Ryk had a game-high 26 points (20 attack points, four aces and two block points). Captain and middle blocker Emily Maglio of Coquitlam, British Columbia had 13 points (six attack points, six blocked points and one ace), and outside hitter Andrea Mitrovic of Mississauga, Ontario had 12 points (11 attack points and one blocked point).

With the win, and Canada improves to a record of five wins and three losses. They are in seventh place in the Women’s Volleyball Nations League overall. The United States and Brazil are tied for first place with a record of seven wins and one loss. Italy, Poland, Japan and Turkey are tied for third place at six wins and two losses. Canada next plays China in Hong Kong on July 8.
