Team Canada will face Team Germany in the 2024 Davis Cup quarterfinals in Malaga, Spain this November. Canada qualified for the quarterfinals by winning Group D, while Germany qualified by finishing in second place in Group C.
In the history of the Davis Cup, Canada has won the title once, while Germany has won thrice. Canada’s title came in 2022. Canada’s win also came in Malaga, Spain. While, Germany’s three wins came in the original Davis Cup format where one of the two finalists hosted the final. Germany, which was West Germany at the time, beat Sweden in 1988 in Gothenburg, Sweden, and then Sweden again in 1989, in Stuttgart, West Germany. Then in 1993, Germany defeated Australia 4-1 in Dusseldorf.
When Canada won the title two years ago, Canada faced Germany in the quarterfinals, with the Canadians coming through with a 2-1 win. In this tie, Canada got a singles victory from 2021 United States Open semifinalist Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec, who beat Oscar Otte, 7-6, 6-4. Then, Vasek Pospisil of Vernon, British Columbia, and Denis Shapovalov of Toronto, Ontario defeated Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Canada then went on to beat Italy in the semifinals and Australia in the finals.
There will be three other quarterfinals. Australia is facing the United States, the Netherlands is facing Spain, and Italy is facing Argentina.
