After a poor start to the Olympic women’s curling tournament, the Canadian team skipped by Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones bounced back with wins over the Russian Olympic Committee (Sunday evening), and Great Britain (Monday morning) to even their record to three wins and three losses at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. With the victories, Canada is in fifth place, behind Switzerland (5-1), Japan, the United States and Sweden (4-2).

In Canada’s 11-5 win over the Russian Olympic Committee, the Canadian team got off to a fantastic start, something that has been very irregular at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. They stole two points each in the first two ends, and then jumped out to a 6-1 lead after four ends. In the Canadian win over Great Britain, Canada had a huge three ender in the fifth end en route to a 7-3 win.

In men’s action, Canada improved to a record of four wins and two losses, after a 7-3 win over Italy. The Canadian team which was skipped by Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue, scored three points in the ninth end, to blow the game wide open. Sweden leads at 6-0. They are followed by Great Britain at 5-1.

Jones does not play again until Tuesday evening (6 p.m. MT) against the United States. Gushue meanwhile has two games coming up. He plays China (Monday evening, 6 p.m. MT) and the Russian Olympic Committee (Tuesday morning, 5 a.m. MT).
