Canada makes the final of the 2022 Women’s World Hockey Championship

Team Canada is in the gold medal game of the 2022 Women’s World Hockey Championship in Herning, Denmark. On Saturday, Canada trounced Switzerland 8-1. They will next face the United States in the gold medal game on Sunday.

In the second of two semifinal games, Canada outshot Switzerland 56-6. Canadian Olympic gold medalists Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec and Sarah Fillier of Georgetown, Ontario led Canada in scoring with three points each. Poulin, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, had two goals and one assist. Fillier, who won a gold medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, had one goal and two assists.

Four more Canadians had a multi-point game. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brianne Jenner of Oakville, Ontario had one goal and one assist for two points. Jenner won gold at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Emily Clark of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan also had one goal and one assist, while Sarah Potomak of Aldergrove, British Columbia and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ella Shelton of Ingersoll, Ontario had two assists. Clark and Shelton won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

The other three Canadian goal scorers were Jessie Eldridge of Barrie, Ontario, and Canadian Olympic gold medalists Sarah Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario, and Kristin O’Neill of Mississauga, Ontario. O’Neill and Nurse won the gold medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The United States won the other semifinal, as they trounced the Czech Republic 10-1.
