Team Canada has clinched first place after the round robin at the 2022 World Men’s Curling Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada. On Friday, the Canadian team skipped by Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Gushue of St. John’s, Newfoundland, defeated Scotland 8-6, and then Denmark 9-2. Gushue won the gold medal for Canada at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin.

The Canadian squad won the round robin standings with a record of 10 wins and two losses. By finishing first, they got a bye to the semifinals, and get the hammer in the first end throughout the playoffs. Sweden also gets a bye to the semifinals after finishing in second place with a record of nine wins and three losses.

Who Canada will play in the semifinals is still up for grabs. They will play the winner of the United States and Scotland, who play at 3 p.m. MT on Saturday. The United States and Scotland both had identical records of seven wins and five losses. However the United States beat Canada 10-6 on Thursday for one of Canada’s two losses.

The other qualification/quarterfinal game on Saturday has Italy versus Switzerland. Italy had a record of eight wins and four losses, while Switzerland was at six wins and six losses. The winner of that game will play Sweden in the semifinals.
