
Team Canada has improved to a record of two wins and zero losses at the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Hockey Championships in Ceske Budejovice, Czechia. On Friday, Canada defeated Switzerland 4-0 in Group A action.
In the Canadian win, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ann-Renee Desbiens of La Malbaie, Quebec led the way by picking up a shutout. She had 17 saves in all. Desbiens had 12 saves in the first period, three saves in the second period, and two saves in the third period. This was the second straight game Canada recorded a shutout. On Thursday, Kristen Campbell of Brandon, Manitoba, made 24 saves for the shutout in a 5-0 Canada win over Finland.
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec led Team Canada in scoring with three points as she had three assists. Another Canadian with a multi-point game was Canadian Olympic gold medalist Laura Stacey of Mississauga, Ontario, who had one goal and one assist for two points. The other three Canadian goal scorers were Daryl Watts of Toronto, Ontario, defenseman Micah Zandee-Hart of Saanichton, British Columbia, and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Natalie Spooner of Scarborough, Ontario. Spooner, Poulin, Desbiens, and Stacey won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Spooner and Poulin also won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, with Poulin winning another gold at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
