Team Canada has improved to a record of five wins and three losses in the 2024 Volleyball Women’s Nations League. On Sunday, Canada defeated South Korea in straight sets, 25-15, 25-12, 25-18. It was quite simply a dominant performance in Arlington, Texas.
Two Canadians reached double figures in total points. Outside hitters Kiera Van Ryk of New Westminster, British Columbia and captain Alexa Gray of Lethbridge, Alberta had 13 points each. Van Ryk had 10 attack points, two block points and one ace. Gray had 13 attack points.
Middle blocker Emily Maglio of Cranbrook, British Columbia led Team Canada with three block points. Setter Brie King of Langley, British Columbia led Canada with five aces.
Team Canada is currently in seventh place in the Volleyball Women’s Nations League standings. They are tied with China at five wins and three losses. Poland and Brazil are in a first place tie at eight wins and zero losses. Italy, Japan and Turkey are tied for third place at six wins and two losses.
The Volleyball Women’s Nations League has added significance this year because it is also a last chance qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Nations that have already qualified are France, the United States, Brazil, Poland, Turkey, Serbia, and the Dominican Republic.
