Team Canada has won its sixth gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. On Tuesday, the Canadian gold medalist was women’s hammer thrower Camryn Rogers of Richmond, British Columbia.
Rogers had a throw of 76.97 metres. Anette Echikunwoke of the United States won silver with a seasonal best throw of 75.48 metres. Jie Zhao of China won the bronze medal with a throw of 74.27 metres. Rogers earned a medal by 2.74 metres. Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland finished in fourth place with a throw of 74.23 metres.
This is a great time in Canadian hammer throw history. On Sunday, Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, British Columbia won the gold medal on the men’s side.
Katzberg and Rogers were Canada’s best chances to win Olympic gold in track and field events and delivered. Team Canada do have other opportunities for Olympic medals coming up in athletics events. Andre de Grasse of Scarborough, Ontario is the reigning Olympic gold medalist in the men’s 200 metres, Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta is the reigning world champion in the men’s 800 metres, Mohammed Ahmed of St. Catharines, Ontario is the reigning Olympic silver medalist in the men’s 5000 metres, Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia has the world’s best women’s shot put throw in 2024 of 20.68 metres, and Alysha Newman of London, Ontario won the silver medal in a Diamond League event in the women’s pole vault in London, England leading up to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
In the medal standings, Canada is in 10th place with 18 medals. They have six gold medals, four silver medals, and eight bronze medals.
