
Cameron Alexander of North Vancouver, British Columbia won the bronze medal on Saturday at a World Cup men’s alpine skiing event in Bormio, Italy. The podium spot has extra significance because Bormio will be the host site of the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Alexander posted a third place time of 1:54.15. Alexis Monney of Switzerland won the gold medal with a time of 1:53.43. Franjo Von Allmen of Switzerland won the silver medal with a time of 1:53.67. Alexander reached the podium by seven one-hundredths of a second. Mattia Casse of Italy finished in fourth place with a time of 1:54.22.
In the World Cup men’s downhill standings in 2024-25, Alexander is in seventh place with 89 points. Marco Odermatt of Switzerland, the reigning Olympic gold medalist in the men’s giant slalom from the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, is the World Cup leader with 225 points. In fact, a Swiss skier is in the top four World Cup positions as Von Allmen is in second place with 163 points, Justin Murisier is in third place with 142 points and Monney is in fourth place with 120 points.
This is Alexander’s fourth World Cup men’s alpine skiing medal. He previously won gold and bronze in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 4, 2022 and February 17, 2024 respectively, and bronze in Bormio on December 28, 2023. Alexander also won bronze in the men’s downhill at the 2023 World Alpine Skiing Championships in Courchevel Meribel, France.
