
Team Canada is in the semifinals on Monday of the 2024 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland. On Saturday, the Canadians defeated Germany’s Straubing Tigers 6-3 in the final game of the group stage.
Four Canadians had a multi-point game. Toronto Marlies right winger Logan Shaw of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia had two goals, Ajoie HC Right winger Jonathan Hazen of Val Belair, Quebec had one goal and one assist for two points. Cleveland Monsters defenseman Madison Bowey of Winnipeg, Manitoba also had one goal and one assist for two points, while Ontario Reign left winger Charles Hudon of Alma, Quebec had two assists. The other two Canadian goal scorers were Lugano left winger Daniel Carr of Sherwood Park, Alberta, and Laval Rocket defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer of Toronto, Ontario.
This has been a marvelous tournament so far for Hazen. After two games, he has two goals and three assists for five points. Hazen led Team Canada in scoring with one goal and two assists in a 6-2 win over HC Davos.
Canada won Group Cattini, and now awaits the winner of HC Dynamo Pardubice of the Czech Republic and the Tigers. Those two teams are playing in one of two quarterfinals on Sunday. The other Sunday quarterfinal is Switzerland’s HC Davos playing Finland’s Oulun Karat, with the winner playing Switzerland’s HC Fribourg-Gotteron.
