Cam Talbot of Caledonia, Ontario recorded his 31st National Hockey League career shutout on Friday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-0 Los Angeles Kings win over the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Talbot made 28 saves overall. He made 12 saves in the first period, five saves in the second period, and 11 saves in the third period.
Offensively for the Kings, left winger Pierre-Luc Dubois of Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec scored the game-winning goal at 3:10 of the first period on the power-play. Phillip Danault of Victoriaville, Quebec and Jordan Spence had the assists. Two Canadians on the Kings had a multi-point game. Dubois had one goal and one assist for two points, and Quinton Byfield of Newmarket, Ontario had two assists.
In 2023-24, Talbot has a record of 20 wins, 16 regulation losses and six losses in extra time with a goals against average of 2.43, save percentage of .917 and three shutouts. Talbot’s two prior shutouts this season came on November 4 in a 5-0 Kings win over the Philadelphia Flyers and on Decenmber 7 in a 4-0 Kings win over the Montreal Canadiens. Of Talbot’s 31 career shutouts, 12 have been with the Edmonton Oilers, eight have been with the New York Rangers, five have been with the Minnesota Wild, three have been with the Los Angeles Kings, two have been with the Calgary Flames and one has been with the Ottawa Senators.
With the win, the Kings improved to a record of 34 wins, 21 regulation losses and 11 losses in extra time for 79 points. They are third place in the Pacific Division.
